Re: Getting another New/Used sled!
I have to say, I now have two favorite sleds. My Yamaha is fast, smooth, reliable...and did I say fast? The other is my boys 440 Cyclone. Ugly, old, looks broken...fast, smooth (kinda) and reliable (everything mechanical is rebuilt or new). Not sure if over twenty years gained as much as it should h...

Lone Tree Creek die cast JDX4
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say I was at Waconia this past weekend and on Sunday I put a bid in on a 1/16th scale 1973 JDX4...and I actually got it. I am not one of those people who like to keep things in the box because the value stays better so I pulled it out...OMG! The attention to detail on ...

Re: Getting another New/Used sled!
WOW!!! I got the carbs rebuilt and with a few pulls to prime the carbs she started and purrs like a kitten...OK, maybe a psychotic, saber-toothed, trapped in a cage kitten, but a kitten nonetheless. One thing for certain, we're not in Kansas anymore! This thing has so much torque that when the throt...

Re: Getting another New/Used sled!
Got the carburetors off and I might see one of the reasons it was so hard to start. The center carb has a roller bearing with a seal on both sides The seal on one of the sides went an awful long time with the seal folded over and allowing air to come in...can't be good! It was not ripped so ...

Re: Getting another New/Used sled!
This one has 7,800 miles on it and the only thing the guy said is it is hard to start for the first time of the season. He is moving out of Minnesota and gave me the "I work with you and I want to get rid of it deal" of $750.00, so I couldn't hardly say no. From what I am hearing cleaning ...

Re: Getting another New/Used sled!
I had heard the SRX700's were extremely fast...it is funny you mention the carbs though. I was told by the previous owner that it is very hard to start for the first time of the season. I pulled and pulled on Saturday (100+ pulls, full choke, half choke, etc...pretty sore yet today) and no go. My on...

Getting another New/Used sled!
Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has any info on my newest sled. I am picking up a 1999 Yamaha SRX 700 (Yep...awfully new for me) in almost perfect shape. I have looked on line and about the only thing I find is that even by today's standards they are FAST!!! :sled: Does anyone know anything I shou...

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
Both of the slides were a 2.0.
All I know is I had my youngest daughter come out and start it (110 lbs soaking wet...the best test I could think of) and on the first pull it started and idled perfectly.
...I'm ready!
Thanks for your help.

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
Well, The needle is a 6FL14 on the third groove, but after thinking about it, I tried one more thing. In the interest of performance (lighter weight makes thing faster right?), I changed the throttle slide from the original heavy chrome plated brass unit to a lightweight aluminum one...just for kick...

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
Alright everyone! I got the right Wiseco wristpins, splurged and bought 15 gallons of part cleaner for my new harbor freight parts washer (everyone...take this to heart...It's not cheap, but go to Tractor Supply and get PSC-1000 cleaner! It worked so well I was looking for things to clean! I can't r...

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
Well, that is what they do so they must be factory.
I guess I will just purchase some shorter pins and get on with life...

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
And that is the length I got from Pat's...it was way too long! Is it possible that the pistons were switched in the engine I have? I looked in the DK catalog and the length I have seems to correspond to a couple of Arctic Cat's and a couple of Polaris'? The pistons seem to be factory. One thing thou...

Re: Making a Cyclone 440 from a 340
OK...I purchased new wrist pins and when I got them home they were almost a 1/4" too long compared to the ones I pulled out of my 440! In looking at their part number as well as the part number from Dennis Kirk (they match), they have given me the correct ones  The wrist pins I have are ...
