1983 liquifire... No fuel

It's been a few years since I've been active on the forum, and since I went through my real nice 83 liquifire. I got it down to the garage to get it ready for this winter but its not getting fuel to the carbs. The filter and lines are clear and it appears as if the problem is with the fuel pump. Any tips on this? Just let the pump soak in carb cleaner? Any help appreciated

Is the fuel pick up line inside your fuel tank hooked up to the tank fitting? A lot of times these lines become brittle over the years and fall off. If this is the case you will not get fuel to the carb IF your fuel level is below the tank fitting.

Check the impulse line from the crankcase to the fuel pump. Look ok? No cracks??

You can also disassemble your fuel pump to clean/rebuild it. I know Ive bought rebuild kits in the past.

As Paul stated...needles and seats should be checked. Also double check to make sure your floats are installed correctly. (upside down=no fuel) Ive done that before...

While youre checking out the carbs might as well clean them really good with carb cleaner and compressed air. Check to make sure all your jets are clean!

One more thing to try...pressurize your fuel tank with compressed air...this will force air through the fuel lines to the carbs. Just be careful not to over do it and blow out your tank fitting. I found using a rag around an air nozzle works well to do this.

A bad crank seal can also cause the fuel pump to not function.

Do you have a fuel shutoff valve? This has happened to me before. I always forget the really simple things and automatically think it's a complex issue. My frineds all make the joke when I can't get my sled fired up right away, it goes, "Kill Switch?". Let's just say that the heads and cylinders may have been removed before I discoverd my little oversight.

Happened to me on 3 different deere.
So far every time it's been the $1.98 in tank fuel pickup & new gas line solution.
Instant difference.

The first time was waaaayyy more involved, fuel pump, carb, seals, etc.
Now I start from least $ & time & work my way up.
Just my experience/suggestion.
