I've discovered that the caliper on my 340/S tends to keep the puck pushed against the disc. I can push it away and free up the jackshaft so that it will revolve but as soon as I engage the brake it sets up again.
Anyone experienced with KH brakes and can tell me how to fix this issue. The sled has been sitting for several months.

Re: Kelsey-Hayes Brake Issue
Don is the rotor hub free to float back and for on the jackshaft?
Is the woodruff key in good condition?

Don, as Todd has said the rotor needs to float back & forth on the Jackshaft inorder to push the puck back in..

DA,
When I restored my 340/S, I screwed up and painted the entire jack shaft to the chain case bearing. The paint on the shaft kept the disk from floating like it's designed to do. I had to clean the area where the disk travels of any paint and I sprayed the bare shaft with Comet clutch lube. Seems to be working fine.

Re: Kelsey-Hayes Brake Issue
Thanks every one. I want to check the upper chaincase bearing anyway so I'll pull the jackshaft and check the brake disc again.

Re: Kelsey-Hayes Brake Issue
Don I have found on some sleds where the disk is tight on the shaft the problem was the woodruff key being worn which left it to bind on the rotor hub.
Also the hub keyway may have excessive wear which would allow it to cock and bind on the shaft and key.
I am sure when you have shaft in hand you will see the problem. New keys can be found at any Auto Parts store.
If the shaft is 86'd you can make a tie rack out of it. Or have a machine shop cut a new keyway 120 degs out from the bad one.
Post pics please when you have it disassembled.

DA, IF the shaft, Keyway, & Rotor are OK, it might be that you brake slave piston is sticking, disassemble, clean & sand rust or grit away & reassemble..

Not sure with the kh master but on the skidoos I have seen that issue. You need to clean the master really well. Its not letting the fluid return properly. Or I could take it off your hands and just use the old cable set up. Haha
