Sure would appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Winterfrost 2 Paint code needed
If my memory serves me correctly, it's the same color as what Case/IH used on the wheels of their tractors. I'm certain that there's a thread on this board somewhere. KWC might still have the code from when we built the charity Sportfire.

If it's correct, it looks like 4262 is a code for that color in PPG. I will see if my local PPG dealer can spray out a card, and see how it looks.

Re: Winterfrost 2 Paint code needed
I wanted to thank everyone for their help with my Winter Frost 2 paint code mystery! This JD group is really great about helping others, and is a tremendous resource!
Thanks to Brock, Nick and the others that pointed me in the right direction by providing paint codes for other paint MFGs. Each of these references proved helpful in locating the “correct” color.
Here is the “Cliff notes” version of what I learned it may be of help to others in the future.
The consensus was that Winter Frost 2 was VERY close to the color Case/IH used on their silver wheel rims. I also thought I’d read that Winter Frost 2 was still available at Deere dealers but had been renamed. I can’t vouch for how close they are, however Deere does currently have a silver paint available that the color chart says ”matches Case/IH silver.”
Case/IH currently has 2 (3 if you count the high-temp exhaust paint) silver color options available. #1 Silver-Aluminum, #2 Silver-Argent. I had read on the Case/IH/Farmall forums that the Silver-Aluminum color was “too bright” for most tractor resto guys.
After spraying Silver-Argent on a card I took it to the local paint shop to be matched. Boy did I get an education! Up until then I always thought “a color, was a color”. I had no idea how auto manufactures struggle to maintain consistent color matches over a year of production. I always figured that for example, all 2012 silver Ford Mustangs (not picking on Ford here) were EXACTLY the same color. Turns out that the color varies ever so slightly during the production run and from time to time (due mostly to automation and minute variations over a period of time).
Below I have posted photos of the backside of the PPG Ford Silver paint that I had mixed for the Trailfire. The Case/IH silver paint sample I brought with me most closely matched one of the “up-date” silver colors (there were 6 update supplements for this color with just slightly different variations). I took the advice of the paint guy to go with the “prime” version of this silver.
I can only imagine that snowmobile paint colors also must have varied during production “back in the day.”
I hope some of this information helps others in the future.
Take care,
Roger

Re: Winterfrost 2 Paint code needed
If that PPG 4262 works out well, let us know please. I have used PPG most all of my life, and have their reducers, and clearcoats, primers etc, in my stockpile, so it saves on buying all of that. Hopefully that color works well.

Re: Winterfrost 2 Paint code needed
Old topic but I was searching around to find some paint to spray in the belly pan of on of my trailfires while I have the engine removed. Not really concerned about it matching the original just wanted to get something close to stop the rust from getting worse. Hopefully someday I’ll have the time to do a proper restoration but not at the moment. I found a paint chart at my dealer that had case silver listed and miraculously one of our others stores had one in stock. I’m sure the stuff from Vintagesledpaint.com is a better match and better paint but this stuff was reasonably priced and what I was after at the current time. Looks to still be a good Deere part number. TY25420
