78 cyclone track issue

Post by patriot »

i have another problem ,it is with the track on my 78 cyclone the track that is on it is from a 77 and the center drive lugs look to me to be rubbing on the top shock mount, the 78 does not have center drive lugs are these not interchangeable?

Yes, the 76 thru 78 tracks are interchangeable on the Cyclone / early Liquifire series. You could be seeing previous wear marks from when the track was on the 77. The top of the shock mount rubs the inside of the track until the suspension is crompresses slightly. Also, check the nylon wear strips that the track rides on. They could be worn down, causing the track to contact the shock mount.

I am using the same track in my 78 Cyclone.

Correct, the original drive-shaft was round and the drivers were probably white. The hex drive-shaft was a later update along with the hex drivers.

The hex shaft from a Trailfire/Sportfire/Liquifire will work but you will need to find 2.52 hex drivers to use on the Cyclone. I have seen the oem round shafts on ebay and the classifieds now and then.
