cyclone hyfax

Post by yamadeere »

guys, i have a 78 cyclone that spit the hyfax out the back because the little nut tab
that was tig welded to the rail broke off. Short of pulling the skid and fabbing some
new pieces, has anyone drilled and tapped the front of the rail and held the fax
on with a screw? Not sure if there is enough beef there. Any thoughts?

I've got a '78 suspension, that the previous owner drilled 1/4" holes through the front of the rails, so 1/4 bolts could be installed to retain the slides. I can't say I really reccommend it, but I can say I've seen it.

Other brands do this normally (maybe some JDs too) and the new hyfax even have holes pre-drilled to use a bolt on the front of the slide/skid to hold it.

That hole in the hyfax Matt is for the mid-mount sleds. They have a bolt in the front of the slide rail. At least on a 74' X6 did.. :-) Not sure how cyclone/liquifire years are? Fire series are bolts in the back with keeper.

76/77 cyclone/liquifire with the steel rails had a hole drilled in the front of the rail to anchor the hyfax to.

The switch from front to back started in 1978. All the skid rails from then on are aluminum.
