75 JD300 Original v.s. Patriotic
75 JD300 Original v.s. Patriotic
Mfg. date unknown
Original condition
Owned since 2 weeks ago, I've been debating for a couple years what type of sled to get as a first time project!!! So I pulled the trigger. (it was cheap and it ran/kind of) Now I'm hooked, I've done a few things but it's far from perfect.
Have replaced:
Plugs
Fuel line
Fuel filter
Cleaned gas tank
Brake cable
Recoil
Cleaned carb/new gasket
Carbides
Bought new 12.5in windshield.
So with all that work, should I keep it original or a custom patriotic look? The only thing I'm going to use it for is ice fishing and a few veteran fishing/winter events. And of course my kids will learn on it.
Any suggestions or recommendations?

I like the Patriotic look idea. It's not a sled that anyone will get upset about changing, so go for it!

That's what I was concerned about being new to the JD restoration scene. For this season I plan on just doing my research and attending a few events.

Thanks Todd, since this is my first attempt I appreciate the assistance. What are some of the other things I should replace before heading out on the trail? Or things to look out for? I'm in Eagan MN.

Drive bearings are a big one too if you want a reliable rider.

It's a good candidate to do a custom job on. It's not a rare sled so making it a cool custom would be neat to see

I can see it now... polished alum tunnel, waving American flag on both sides of the hood.
Maybe an MIA/POW decal on the fuel door. "Honor those who served" lettering under the flag.
There would be no green on the sled when it was done.
