1984 Trailfire cylinders

Post by hounds84lhs »

Hi, I am in the process of going through my 84 engine and it looks like on of the cylinders is bad. i have a 1980 440 parts motor but noticed the cylinders are slightly different? After some research I see there are different part numbers for the later years TF cylinders. Would/can I use one from each engine? Thanks in advance for any help.

No, stick with the later ones. They are an update with the ignition
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

I would personally send them out to Millenium or US Chrome and have them replated with nicasil. Wiseco will sell your pistons with nicasil rings. I think all said and done, I’m into my ‘83 motor $700 with gaskets. I haven’t fired it yet but I’m pretty excited to start showing it again this summer and riding next winter. It will be much more durable than the original chrome lined motor.

Thanks for the info.

I was going thru my parts engines and found something interesting. These are all off of TA440 motors. One has TA440A-D202 and the other has TA440A-C202? Is there any difference?

Sorry I did not add the last part of my question. The 84 engine is marked TA440-F202. Does the C, D and F mark the year manufactured or?

The F202 uses copper rings instead of paper/steel gaskets. The F202 also has a little extra go fast.
