Hey there I have a 1980 John Deere Liquifire 440 and have no spark was looking for some pointers on troubleshooting this issue.
It was running then went about 6’ dropped down to one cylinder then just quit.
I did put two new spark plugs in and still no spark plugs!
Disconnected the key switch still no spark .
Omhed out key switch was ok
Repeated steps for kill switch still no spark
Replaced coil pack and cdi with another used one which could possibly be bad too don’t know but still no spark plugs.
Disconnected rev limiter still no spark
Not sure how to test stator or cdi looking for some direction on where to start next ?

Re: 1980 John Deere Liquifire 440 no spark
The best place to start is by unplugging the wiring harness from the motor. Then check to see if you have spark.
Unfortunately the Deere service manual only talks about testing these with a special test box. The Kawasaki Invader manual gives a little more detail. About all you can do is check the resistance of the exciter, pulse coils, and ignition coil. If those check out good, then you assume the CDI is the issue.
Here's the page from the Kawasaki Invader manual that talks about checking resistance. If you are not aware you can download both the Kawasaki Invader and Liquifire service manuals from a website called vintagesnow.
