Alternate timing on a ccw 400/21

Post by Speedbuff »

 Hi everyone I am new to the ccw world and busy trying to bring it back to life . I spent about 5 hrs attempting to time the engine after reselling it and going all through it I added an electric start flywheel from a ccw 44o/22 .Anyways I tried Timing box with light and buzzer and it wouldn’t work not sure if it is ok ? Then tried a multimeter but no matter how much cleaning I did on the points I could not time it up in the manner posted in the manual .
I set the point gap at .014” and set the stator plate about midway into the middle of the adjustment window . Then I put the electric starter on and cranked it . I expected no spark but after all that cleaning it has a bright blue spark . My question to you guys is can this engine be timed with an automotive timing light if so would I point it at the marks on the flywheel the one just before the mark with the T ? As it stands now I am going to try and get it to fire as it is now I realize that at this rate it will likely burn down on the snow but my intent is to try and time it before that.Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
