1976 Liquifire 440 Overheated

Post by Deleted User »

My friend recently loaned me his old 1976 liquifire 440 so that I could ride with others. It ran great all night, he informed me the motor was rebuilt a few years ago. However shortly before I got home it became really hot as snow became sparce. I shut it off and cooled it down, once I got it started again it ran terrible, I figured it was the plugs, I have replaced the plugs and it still runs terrible. It does not want to idle and when I hit the gas it bogs down. It also seems to be sputtering alot as well as backfiring. Can someone tell me what I did and how I can fix the problem? I would really appreciate it as I mentioned it is not mine. Thank you all for your advice.

Mustang,
Check the simple things first.:
spark in both cylinders
fouled plugs
clogged fuel filters
check compression
Reasons for overheating:
not enough snow coverage on ground(minimum should be 4 inches)
coolant level to low
broken or loose water pump belt
stuck thermostat(closed)

Compression test will be the first thing you need to try. That is usually a good tell!
