By golly, in the DK catalog, it does mention that 440/21 std. pistons can be used on 400 as overbore.

I had my 440/22 cylinders bored out .010 over this year just to clean them up, Had them done by a local shop by me, that I have been going to for years. He charged $60 a cylinder, and did an excellent job at cross hatching the bore, and the pistons we ordered from Parts Unlimited were original Kiortz pistons and L-grooved rings, they were even still packed in the Kioritz boxes. Even had the heads shaved .010 to clean them up at $70 for the pair. I think Parts Unlimited might have even had standard pistons just to give you a head up.

Hey!... thats what i was thinking!..... so, it is true then...... you CAN bore a 400 jug to 440 specs!.... I would not have though that JD would have made up the extra tooling and all it would take to produce a different jug when they could use the same on several of there models.... and just bore them as needed... I however did find a set of the 440/22a jug and heads on ebay... but decided to let them go.... I will just bore mine over and call it good....100% fresh cylinders.... all true and no problems.... as with buying someones elses jugs.... you just dont know till you have them in your hand!....(hum,... jugs in my hand...) I can get those LLP pistons in a .040 over on ebay.... they seem to always be a set on there.... around $40 is all they go for... for a pair!

Thanks for the info guys!

Kelly,
Before assuming you could bore a 400 to a 440, you should contact Bob at Image or Central Snowmobile. They both have bored/sleeved the kioritz jugs and would know.

Kelly something to try if you can get ahold of someone at DKTrader on ebay they may still have some nos jugs. I bought a pair of them for less than it would cost to have 1 cylinder bored. This of course was when they were still selling the deere stuff on ebay. I think Rainville and maybe some others may have a way to call them or know who to talk to.

No Andy, it was not me.

I also have a set of DK one's left.
They were a steal at $24.
But even at $90 that is a very good price.
