Pinstripe removal question

Post by ChickenRat »

I know that the painted on pinstripes were all the rage in the 80's. I never liked them. But my question is what product will take these painted on pinstripes off? Or will they even come off without major work?

Thanks......Robb

Robb I have had some luck with using automotive lacquer thinner on a rag.... but very sparingly. Also try wet sanding them off with 1500 to 2000 grit. When you are done give the whole hood or tunnel a good buffing...low rpm on the wheel with a medium or fine cut compoud to get the paint uniform in colour again.

Mark,

Just want to give you a heads up that the Easy Off oven cleaner trick worked nicely. The sled I was working on had a ton of those pesky stripes on it. I sprayed the oven cleaner on, let it sit for about 20-30 minutes and worked them off. Had to do it twice but worked nicely. Also, it never damaged the paint on the original hood. I masked off the decals because I didn't know if it would ruin them. I washed and waxed the hood once I was done to get any of the residue off. Thanks for the tip........................................
