That isn't as easy of a question to answer as it seems, if it's a cold day & your going into the wind It probably won't take as much speed, a warm day, tacky snow, hard pull, & you might have to get up to 50 mph + to keep it cool. I remember in ND that we had a wind from behind & we were kind of running in a vacuum & even running on the roads at high speeds they were getting real hot, a lot of guys started ripping off there hoods, which shortly after came the rule that you had to finish the race with your hood or at least a good portion of it..
Once my Dad started trail riding it he started having heating problems, & once the 78's came out with the tunnel cooler & we could get our hands on one he installed it & never had any problems again..
Except when I rode it one time in the vintage 76 & older race in Garrison MN. & I stopped in a big water puddle to refuel & it froze the tunnel cooler in ice. he didn't tell me all I had to do was shut the motor down for a couple of minutes & the ice would melt off, until later????.... That was the only race I had a chance of placing high in ( there wasn't much competition in that class at that time) & I left the sled sit out on the ice & walked away , because I didn't want to burn it down?? ( a good racer wouldn't have cared if it burnt down or not, but being it was the old mans sled????)....& didn't know that was all that the problem was.... If only I didn't know now what I didn't know then!!!!!
I believe that IF it would have been a 80+ cooler that wouldn't have happened.. but that was in the early spring of 79.
Install the tunnel cooler it will be well worth your time later in $$$$ & headaches saved

so, how should it be plumbed? To the rad or heat exchanger first? Has this been discussed before and if so, who has done it? I would like to see some pics and get some suggestions.

skis are all fixed up and painted. Waiting for carbides and shocks. The hood was cleaned up and put back on with a new windshield.

this is from Friday. Rear skid was disassembled and it was not easy. A lot of heat and swearing, but it all came apart.

After a few hours of sandblasting on Saturday, some cracks were found and this is the result. Some scrap 11ga. steel and some tig welding.

today the rear skid was assembled with all new bearings in the wheels and new sliders. A couple of the cross shafts had to be remade and grease nipples were added in those pivot spots.

Well I already had the drive shaft and track put in, so I am going to run it like this for now and will put it in later. Had I remembered before the drive shaft and chaincase was reinstalled, then it would have one for sure.

Good day yesterday. The dator moved under its own steam for the first time since the early 80's. No video as I was by myself. The clutch set up is rank on this thing, engagement is north of 5500 rpm. I also noticed that the rear holes for the rear suspension were moved back, which resulted in the rear susp being sucked up. The machine sat real low like this. I will have a few more questions now for the original owner.
All ready for snow now fellas!!!!

Rich, I hadn't noticed before but if you have 2 extra small wheels add them to the appropriate place on the outside of the suspension, Between the front & rear springs. It will help roll the track easier & save on Hi-fax..

Kenny, those wheels were re-installed after I took the pics. I left them out so that I could adjust the spring tension easier and I was waiting for two more bearings as well.
