Hi,
I'm looking for ideas to prevent my 80 spitfire from taking off down the field by itself. It idles well when I first start it but after going for a ride, the track turns by itself. I need to hold the brake down so it won't go anywhere. The idling screw isn't pushing down the throttle. I've played with the needles for days without any success.
Your help would be appreciated.
Eric

Sounds like an air leak which is causing the high idle.

Are you sure the primary clutch is releasing during idle.

Sure you have the correct belt on it?
Feel free to check out our website www.buscobullet.com for restorations or parts.

I would check to make sure the correct belt is being used and the clutches are adjusted correctly.

demonic possession?
Track goes by itself?
Thank for all the suggestions. I do believe it's possessed. That or it wants to run away because I won't keep it in the garage at night.
Track goes by itself?
My 600 did the same thing. Turns out, the old man is losin a little bit in his old age and ordered too short of a drive belt. Pretty simple fix. If it wants to run away to a new owner, i have a place for it in the shed

My 79 spitfire does the same thing. When you start it its good but after you ride it a bit it wants to creep. I hold the brake for a few seconds and let it sit and its fine, I'm thinking the clutch is a bit sticky.
