Restored JDX8
Completed restoration of a 1973 JDX8 (serial JDX8009382M). I am particularly happy with how the bogie suspension turned out. Thank you to all the members of this site that provided either parts or advise.

Thanks for the compliments.
I am located in Belleville WI which is south of Madison about 20 minutes. I would say from Burlington WI about 1.5 hour drive. I am always up for meeting with other JD nuts to talk sleds and such.

Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.

How do you guys get your fuel tanks to look like that?

Fuel tank question. First off start with a good fuel tank that is not all rusted and beat to hell. They are around enough that if you do not have a good one then go looking at a salvage yard. Make sure to check the inside too. The easy off and bolts takes care of the rust on the inside. On the outside I degrease it with engine cleaner, used WD40 and steel wool, about a 6 pack of beer and 3 hours in the shop just basically cleaning/sanding every inch of paint and rust. Then a coat of primer and then 1 light coat of I used high temp metalic grey paint. I am not an expert but I forsure learned that inorder to get good paint jobs you have to prime it, otherwise it will always turn out not as nice as it could have.
I thought about using the bead blaster but I was afraid it would be too rough but maybe not and it sure would have turned a 3 hour job into about 20 minutes. But also would have not got to drink the 6 pack as easily.
