Problem with 81 LF

Post by DEERE »

Hi!
Yesterday i was blessed with lots of snow here,so the LF was prepered for its first run.But after a while the LF didnt have the power to run,i just give it more and more throttle but no,almost like you have the handbrake in a car and trying to drive. And it stinks fuel....but i have no fuel leaks. The LF have worked fine before so thats why im suprised. Any ideas?

Could the fuel pump be dumping raw fuel into the engine thru the impulse line? On my Sportfire I get a fuel smell because the carb is flooding the engine & exhaust pipe w/ raw fuel. Liquid gasoline actually drips from the exhaust pipe. On another thread I was told that jet needle & seat are not sealing correctly.

Hope this helps

Have you checked your needle and seat assys? It's best to check them with a vacuum gauge. Are your power jet lines sealing? Are your needle jet o-rings new or are they used and torn up?

Could this be a crank seal problem. What do they recommend, spray WD-40 or carb cleaner at the crank seals while the engine is idling to see if speeds up.

You can't do the spray trick on a liquifire. The seals are inclosed on both ends. You have to take the engine out and tear it down to check it. Do you know how long it has been since the seals were replaced?

Compression no, but a pressure test would.

Now i have take the carburators apart again and cleaned them with an ultrasound wave machine?Anyway put them back and started the LF.It runs great,so i took it for a ride and everything is great, the sound the speed well everything!
But!!!! Then after 25minutes of snowmobiling it sounds BÖUUHÖ! and its the same &%#) again!!!! I was forced to run beside the sled until the rpms was high enough to sit on it and run it back home.So now im back at square one with a stinky LF in the garage :shifty:

Sounds like your tank needs to be drained and cleaned...it doesn't take much sediment to clog up a carb

If your sled starts and runs fine for about 30 minutes and then the power really fades try replacing your ignition coil.
Mine has had this problem and I had it replaced problem solved. After starting your sled and running it until the power fades stop and let it cool down after that start it up and see if it has the same result...for some reason when them coils get hot they wont let the sled run right plus their 30yrs old....I've replaced mine twice now....
good luck

Your carbs do fit a certain side just because of the jetting of the pto/mag side. but if it's running good now ....sweet.
did you replace the internal ignition coil on the stator plate......sounds like you did if it runs for 2 hours without bogging ....
any updates....
