Lost lights 295/S
Lost lights 295/S
I had my 295 out for a good ride last night and after about a half hour of riding I lost all lights and the tach stopped working any ideas. Also it's kind of boggy on the low end carbs are super clean 190,160 main 40 pilots once it gets moving hang on!! Does anyone know if there was a service change on how the floats are adjusted one book says level and another says 23mm for floats which one is correct?
Re: Lost lights 295/S
I would suggest starting the engine, pull the connector apart and measure the ac voltage output at the engine side of the connector.
If it is say zero to 5 volts at idle the problem is the lighting coil.
If it is say 10 to 15 volts than the problem is in the sled wiring somewhere.
Plug the connector back in. Unplug the voltage regulator and AT IDLE, measure ac voltage again.
If it is 10-15 then the voltage reg is shot.
If it still low than continue to isolate the curcuit that is pulling down the voltage.
Disconect the lights, tach, ect one system at a time until the voltage pops back up.
Once you know what curcuit or component is the problem you can repair or replace it as needed.
My bet is the regulator toasted out on you. Common problem and a cheap fix at less than $20 for a new one.

Re: Lost lights 295/S
I had the same thing happen with a JDX8. The first time it was the voltage regulator and it blew the tail light bulb. The second time all the lights quit it turned out to be a bad stator. I bought a rewound one from Scott at Hewtech.

Any other thoughts on the float adjustment?
