needle bearing sizes??
I know we are looking for needle bearings for different machines. Has anyone played with cageless needle bearings. I know that is what all the new skidoo's use now and the 800 twins use a 20x25x23. As long as we had one that the pin diameter was half of the difference between i.d. and o.d. it should work and there is twice the roller surface as well. just a thought i had

I had a friend that told me changing them on his wife's Ski Doo is a bitch if you don't purchase Ski Doo's installation tool. which I would imagine that you would need a different tool for each different size pin/rod hole??

Re: needle bearing sizes??
it is not fun lots of choise words and grease everywhere. It is just an idea. Western powersports has a 19mm id but it is a 24 mm od top needle bearing made by hot rods.

BRP does it for cost savings. Most engines guys replace them with caged sets. Peter

Re: needle bearing sizes??
Skidoo sells the cageless bears in a plastic case that holds the bearings in...
you insert the bearings in the rod end and the outer cage is removed while a small dowel pin is left in the center of the bearings.
When the piston is installed on the rod end the wrist pin pushes out the plastic dowel and the installation is complete.
The problem is when you remove the original piston if you don’t have a extra set of these or don’t have the skidoo tool, you can have a mess on your hands!!!…I build a barricade every time I install or remove these because you know were they fall!……..then you have to count the individual bearings to make sure you found them all!!!
Like “That Girl” stated …..if you plan on removing pistons often …….IE racing, the caged bearings are for sale.
I asked a Skidoo rep once and he said the cages heat up and take up space that can be used for bearing surface………………….I personally never had a caged bearing fail ……..even on the nitrous engines

a year or 2 ago when i was 14 we raced mcculloch 91cc go-carts and they used roll pins with out a cage. it was the only part of the engine i was not allowed to assemble at 14.

Re: needle bearing sizes??
I feel like cageless bearings would be a real pain in the a*% to deal with. I'll take the extra heat personally.

Re: needle bearing sizes??
some engines like a dator engine use a odd size, that no one is able to find anymore. i think its 19mm and this may be one alternative. yes a caged bearing is much easier to work with.
Thanks,
Ted

Re: needle bearing sizes??
Right, I get what you're saying. Believe me I know more than anybody how hard those bearings are to find for the Dators especially when you only need one and no one will sell you one. Fortunately though, it sounds like Larry found another caged bearing that will work on the Dator so it looks like we're set for a while again.Dator76 wrote:some engines like a dator engine use a odd size, that no one is able to find anymore. i think its 19mm and this may be one alternative. yes a caged bearing is much easier to work with.

www.CVtech--aab.com has listings of every available pin, bearing, connecting rod etc. for two stroke engines. Dimensions, c-c etc. Very good resource. Peter
