You looking for the "Y" pipe or muffler? 76's are different than 77's and 78's.

Where do you live in WI? I live near Eau Claire and am only 18 miles from I-94. I am sure I have a pipe and y-pipe if needed off of a 76 Liquifire.

I think you might be right about Liquifires but I was thinking there was difference in Y pipes between 76 and 77 Cyclones.

My best guess would be the internal tuning is different to reflect the change in '77 to regular grade gas and a slightly less compression ratio.

Hi Guy,

I know the Y pipe changed for the 77-78 440 Liquifires. The 76 unit fit both the 340 and 440 that year, and was also used on the 77-78 340 LF's. Don is correct, the Cyclone Y pipe and muffer and different than the LF units. Not sure if the LF pipe changed or not, but I have parts book here I can check...

I looked in the parts book for the Cyclone Y pipe number guessing that -70000 was different than 70000- but it showed AM 53987 for both just further confusing me!!

AHHHHHH……… the sweet mysteries of life just go on and on!…………

.I think 76 and 77 Liquifires are the same ……..but I always try to keep up of such things………as you all know it’s not uncommon to find a little swapping going on either at the factory or sellers shop!

If I remember correctly, there was a high performance pipe available for the 440. It added a couple more horsepower. The way to tell the difference is the normal pipe, when installed, comes to around the front of the chaincase cover, while the hp version is appox. 6, 7 inches longer in the body, coming to just about the end of the chaincase cover. Correct me if I'm wrong.
