looking to replace carbs on 81 liquifire

Post by bajorege »

Has anyone swapped powerjet carbs over to non powerjet carbs on a 81 liquifire. If so what size and what jetting. Or if I could find a good pair of used power jet carbs that would be cool too. Mine are very pitted inside and out.

Finding some pj carbs would be best as they are used as performance carbs, more crisp jetting setup per throttle stage than say a standard 38mm carb setup where you have more of a vague fuel hump to get over between positions.

I believe there are a few machines out there with 38mm carbs in lieu of the stock power jet setup. Seems like there was a thread dealing with this situation a few years back, but I can't guarantee that. Perhaps someone who has dealt with this will provide some details. I think clutching mods are part of the equation.

Thanks for the responses guys I too am thinking I just need to find stock used pj carbs. It would probably be a lot to figure out a non pj carb setup

I'm doing this right now on my Invader, swapping to VM38s. I got recommendations from the Kawasaki guys to go to 300-320ish mains and 30-35 pilots. Carbs are jetted 300 & 35 and installed but not tested yet.

I have a fresh set of original liquifire pj carbs. Came off a running sled this fall. I parted out the whole sled.
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

If you have the stock air box, I'd go with the PJ carbs. You will enjoy the ride....

The 38s will work, but I really believe the pj tuned carbs help the sled pull smoother, crisper and more efficiently and there isn't any lag like there could be with 38s
