76 Cyclone Tach wiring

Post by sledstorm »

I am trying to add a tachometer to my 76 cyclone 340. I picked up a NOS AM52346.
It has a yellow lead for light, and two leads for the tach. According to my wiring diagram, the yellow/red wire should connect to black, and the red should connect to brown on the sled. When I connect it this way the tach reads high. Maybe double what it should or more. I connected to the brown circuit at the wiring block.
Any ideas?

That part number comes up for the mid mount snowmobiles with points ignition. Does the tach have a fuse in line of the yellow/red wire? If it does not then it will not work for you ignition

No fuse in the line. The instruction sheet has 73, 74 listed, and then Spitfire and Trailfire.

So I believe the 76-78 Deeres used the AM 53193 tach. All others are not compatible. Maybe its a 2 pulse vs 6 pulse thing? Anyone know?
Are there any other tachs I can use on my 76 Cyclone?

Thanks :wall:
