the 81 liquifire has a rev limiter, but its function is not to prevent overrev but it is a safety device intended to limit the engine rpm (approx 3200 rpm) and below clutch engagement speed in the event of a stuck or iced open slide. im not sure if you can unhook it but the throttle switch can be bypassed if it fails to work.
i am told that the kawasaki invader has a rev limiter to prevent overrev.

On my Sportfire I was told to disconnect the single yellow wire coming out of the speed limiter that connects to a white wire if I had problems with it. With this disconnected it is not able to interfere with the ignition.
