Factory Team Deere 295/S
by Jim (75rat)
This 295/S was originally a factory team Deere race machine, and after
it's racing years were over, it was converted back to stock for general
use. During this restoration, Jim custom built the parts needed
to turn it back into the way it was during it's racing days. You
can read about the factory modifications over in the Racing
section.
Jim Dano's I-500 sled as
purchased. Very dirty, but very original. Unfortunately the original
racing seat and most of the 3 tank fuel system was removed after the
race. This 295/S never had the standard 2.5 gal glove box tank or
aluminum skis.
Note the very rare slide suspension/solid rubber track option:
Serial shows it was the 10th
295/S made and was built in November 1973.
Twist-grip throttle with
cables run through cut-out in engine access cover and kill is switch
from '72 400/500 sled. The tether switch was moved to the dash and no
key switch is used. The second toggle switch and fuse located on the
far left is for handlebar warmers.
The grill is cut-out for
access to the large front fuel tank; it does not open, it's riveted
closed.
Note mouse nest behind the fan
housing.
Skid plate removed to take
out center fuel tank.
The custom belly pan mounted tank was still in the machine:
