For Sale: 1972 JD 500 w/ elec start

The good: Very Clean. Runs great. Track, seat, belly pan and tunnel are perfect. This is a nice survivor for anyone looking to ride or restore. New starter and battery put in this fall. The bad: Windshield is cracked and the muffler is not stock. I have lowered the price to $550 to sell it, but will...

Thanks for the comments. Would someone have a NOS or used muffler off of a newer JDX/00 that they would be willing to sell so I can try it on my 72 500? I am more concerned about my kids hearing that the originality.

72 Muffler

I just purchased a 72 500 to ride and pull my kids with. A friend into Polaris vintage sleds helped me get it running, but is is extremely loud. Can anyone offer advice on if this sled is supposed to be so loud? I think I need a new muffler, but don't know much about vintage sleds. I would appreciat...

Re: Where is the Serial Number

One other comment - I have been told that it should be on the right side of the tunnel, directly below the seat. There is no tag at this location, or any rivet holes.

Where is the Serial Number

I just purchased my first JD sled for nostalgia reasons - a 1972 JD 500. I can't find the serial number for the sled - any suggestions where to look?
