Re: Cyclones!!!
Brian, Very nice looking sled. Katy won't want anything to do with a mid mount after riding the Cyclone. I would seriously consider a rewound stator and Hewtech CDI if you can get them. Some things a scarce right now. I've been burned by the old stators and CDI's. It's crazy, they fire right up that...

Re: Kiroritz 440/21& 440/22
The main difference that I'm aware of between a /21 vs /22 is the connecting rod piston pin dia. /21=16mm pin and /22 is a 18mm pin. For some reason I'm thinking the /22 may have an extra boost port in the cylinder.

Re: 340/S - no spark
You mention the stator was new about 5 years ago. Was this a 40 year old NOS stator or a rewound stator? I haven't had much luck with the old OEM Prestolite CDI boxes and stators. With age they just don't hold up to the heat and break down. Also are trying to run surface gap spark plugs or the elect...

Re: 340/S - no spark
I'd check the wiring where it goes through the rubber grommet and into the engine case. Might also pull the flywheel and check the wiring to the trigger and stator. It's possible it may have rubbed and is shorting out. Are you sure the stator isn't bad or weak? If it's weak it may not be generating ...

Re: RWTC 2020
Sounds like the only thing missing on this adventure was the Mayhem guy from the insurance commercial! That really stinks that half the Deere group had the crud and couldn't ride. I can only imagine the disappointment. Hope everyone has recovered. Sounds like the trail conditions were decent and mad...

Re: Cyclone does not shift
You can remove the can and be just fine. They only used the cover for a short time. It was found that it trapped belt residue and also increased heat in the clutch.

Re: Cyclone does not shift
Your primary clutch even though it has John Deere stamped in it is a Comet clutch. It should be a 102-C Clutch. You need to look into the rollers and clutch weight arms in the primary. Sounds like a roller is locked up or a arm has a groove worn in it causing it to bind and not shift correctly.

Re: Help, before I make a Mistake I regret screw removal
I tried to do a little research on the 440/21 vs the 440/22. The bore and stroke is identical between the two engines. So what are the differences? I don't have a /21 to compare all the parts and pieces to a /22. So this is an assumption. If someone does have access to both engines and can verify fo...

Re: Help, before I make a Mistake I regret screw removal
Can you use a impact driver to help get the cap screws broke loose? The difference between the /21 and /22 crankshafts are the wrist pin inside diameter of the connecting rods. /21's use a 16mm wrist pin. /22's use a 18mm wrist pin. Since the bore and stroke are the same between the two engines, it ...

Re: Can you rebore a ccw cylinder?
A good machine shop won't bore a cylinder without the new oversized pistons. They need to measure the new pistons so they know exactly what dimension to bore the cylinder so the clearance and ring end gap are correct. There's a ton of /22 overbore pistons out there so you shouldn't have a problem fi...

Re: 1973 john deere 600 pistons
These pistons are very hard to find. The last set I saw was when DK Trader was selling left over Deere stock several years ago. So I did some checking and found this. Ebay item # 142249274302. The seller has 4 left. Good Luck!

Peter,
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. I always though the Spitfires were more of a kids sled because they were smaller compared to the other models. I finally got a chance to buy one a few years ago. Wow! What a great little machine. Very fun to ride.
