Re: Ignition problem with ‘73 400

what does the return line look like when you do get it running? lots of fuel with no air or like a 50/50 air fuel mix in the return line back to the tank. If you pull the plugs I assume they are wet. if so pull the fuel line and burn off the plugs to dry them and the extra fuel in the cylinders (spa...

Re: Ignition problem with ‘73 400

try lowering the meter arm even more. I have found that some carbs and new carb gasket set need to be much lower that you would think.

Re: Carburetor Maniflod Gasket

No one that I have been able to find still make that, But I took my part over to a hydraulic place and they found a o-ring that fit pretty good. I dont have a part number as that was a while ago.

Re: Points open gap

this is not my area of expertise but the timing part of setting the points and the gap would need to be the same with in the tolerance given in the manual. I not sure but I though for the kohler motors my manual said to set points to "close" at (blank) number of thousands before top dead c...

Re: Flywheel Removal! What am I doing wrong?

Get it as tight as you dare, then take a hammer and hit the end of the puller where you are using the ratchet to tighten. A good swift but not overly hard blow. The shock and vibration can get them to pop loose. this may take a few time to work on a flywheel that has not been removed in a long time....

Re: Will not start when warm

I deal with alot of these mid mounts and had one last year do this to me. It would start ok when cold and run fairly good, felt like it had ok power and response, but if you shut it off and wanted to restart it. you were s o l. Until it was stone cold. I replace many things like condensers, coils, p...

Re: Worn pistons and rings

I would replace, with new pistons to match cylinders that have being freshened up. I am not a pro but those look really bad to me.

Re: 73 JDX 4 295 Kohler fuel issue

when I read the overhaul manual they mention that the line should be stiff so as the pick up will not be flopping around in the tank and possible grabbing air when running with low fuel. the impulse line from the crank case you also want a stiff type line so when the engine is hot the heat does not ...

Re: 73 JDX 4 295 Kohler fuel issue

thoughts, is your tank vent blocked, have you tried running a mile or two with the cap on lose? with a mikiuni carb how is the fuel pump, new, old, weak?

the drop line in the tank is best if it is a stiffer type of line I find
just my thoughts

Re: JD sled rotisserie

yes well within driving distance for me only 4.5 hr one way. but decide frist what your plan for it is, dont get rid of it before letting me know though. no rush/pressure. Just always wanted one as I have 18 sleds and at some point I will make one or buy one. So let me know what you come up with and...
