Report on Spit track conversion
Well I finished modifiying the suspension and installing a brand new Kimpex 2/3 cleated Artic Cat track on my 78' Spitfire. Don't try this at home. The amount of time and money to do something like this is unreal. I have had some time to test this conversion, and it works very well. The only problem...

Decal touch-up
Last time I checked the decals are'nt available for spitfires yet. Really all I need are some small touch-ups on there colouring. Still hopeing decalguy will respond with some helpfull tips on this one. Besides I'm sure it's preferable to have the factory decals still on the machine, when they are s...

sharing a secret
Can this ppr stuff be used to repair minor cracks in fiberglass hoods as well? Also, just to confirm, would the paint on a 78/79 spitfire be polyuerthane? Previously I just assumed it was enamel. Also, was the same paint used for the hood as for the tunnel?
Thanks for the help. Jingles.

Decal touch-up
For the most part the decals on my sleds are in pretty good shape but I whant to touch up areas were the colour has been worn off, or in one instance were I carelessly allowed some solvents to come in contact, leaving white blotches in the coulour area. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried permanent ...

Lack of snow.
Fianally got to run all 3 of my Spitfires back to back last weekend, it was a blast! Have definately made some progress thanks to the help I've had on this board. Since last weekend the temps here in Ontario have risen to the 10C mark, and with the rain my lawn is turning green again! Oh well, that ...

Replaceing Plywood in Seat
Use what's left of the original wood as a template to cut new plywood. Test fit it on the tunnel and mark the rear mount holes on the wood. Drill out the holes, then install a 'T' nut, available from any hardware store, into the wood from the top side of the wood. Use generous amounts of contact cem...

I have expearinced a very simailar problem, and I think the cause was the needle stuck closed on the seat in the carb. One 'tap' on the carb. and all of the sudden there was gas being pumped into the float bowl. This after about 20 pulls on the cord, pulling the lines off at the tank, and the carb t...

Compression - Kohler
The compressiion reading will change allot depending on the gauge, how hard/fast the starter cord is pulled ect. Has anyone ever tried testing a snowmobile engine with a leakdown guage? My expeariance is pretty much automotive, and this is the only way I would consider evaluating an engine. Jingles.

Spitfire Crankshaft
In 1980 the spitfire went to the Kawasaki engine and there seams to be many other changes in the name of cheaper production. Currently working on a 78, 79, and 80.
The 80 is the only one it does'nt bother me too much to modify from stock. Jingles.

stuck clutch
When you master this one you will be ready to move onto siezed suspension cross shafts. With all the work to get the clutch off, it would make sense to replace the crank seal regardless. Good luck, stiff upper lip, and all that stuff! Jingles.

Spifire tuning tips.
I don't whant your race secrets, only some ideas were to start. Any tips on tuning the engines or clutches would be great. I got 3 spits, one Kawi with Mic. throttle plate carb. One Kohler with the same carb, and one Kohler with a Mic. round slide carb. The latter is the fastest one, yet it is the o...

Speedo Kits
I checked out again, and the speedo kit for spitfire in the JD onlline parts catalogue pt# AM54656 has a foot note "does not include AM54654". If you scroll back up the parts list you find that AM54654 is the drive. If the speedo kit offered further up in this post include everything I nee...

Speedo Kits
Check out the online JD parts catalogue before you buy. The kits do not include one piece you will need, wich I think is the drive gear for the cable? I think this has to do with one kit fitting different machines with different track drive sprockets. Which brings up a question of my own. Does anyon...
