Re: tools, techniques, shortcuts, bargains

For a speedometer with a needle that hunts all over the place, try installing a small O-ring inside the upper cable fitting before tightening it onto the speedo. It probably won't solve the irritating problem on every sled but it totally corrected the issue on my 1978 Ski-Doo Elite and also went a l...

Re: I teared up today

I am so happy to hear that Chuck worked with him on the #54 tribute sled. I look forward to seeing what Chuck has come up with. It is just so saddening that Jon will be unable to ride it. He'd have ridden it fast for sure.

I teared up today

It was not until today that I noticed a message dated Nov 26/2020 from Jon Carlson in my messages. How I wished I'd seen it a year ago but I missed it. I'd have so liked to have met him. In his message, he stated his desire to build a custom sled that would resemble his #54 340/S. He said his #54 is...

Re: tools, techniques, shortcuts, bargains

Well, it's been awhile but I finally came up with another shop idea that works well for me. I always found it frustrating lifting sled engines out of chassis because if you want to handle them with a chain hoist, it's always difficult to find anywhere to attach the chain to. I made up a short chain ...

Re: tools, techniques, shortcuts, bargains

Hey there have been no posts in this thread since 2016? Surely, somebody must have had a good idea since then? Post something if you have one!

The drives were also bad, cracked and brittle. Using a spare LF shaft and drivers as a replacement. :beers;
Do the Liquifires and Liquidators have the same pitch drivers and tracks?

Re: Fat guy on a little sled

They are an excellent handling sled and I think you'll do fine with it. I'm 5' 11" and about the same weight and my Trailfire hauls me okay. Just find some of those rear spring riser blocks and it should work well for you. If you cant find any riser blocks, I think they'd be easy enough to make.

Re: Datorfire is coming along

Measure forward from very rear top edge of the tunnel. Rear hole located at 37.4 cm from rear edge of tunnel and 4.7 cm above running board. Same measurement method for front hole is 100.5 cm and 5.75 cm. These are the locations for the mounting shafts I used in the 1976 Liquifire chassis I built my...

I think that would be quite easy to install. Just make certain you get the complete engine with carburetor. And you’ll want to use a proper Trailfire pipe as wee

Re: 1977 JD Cyclone 440

Looks like a great starting point for a restoration or a custom. look for a decent used bumper though because they are not real easy to properly straighten. If the engine is beyond fixing, you can do all sorts of things because there's a fair bit of room in the engine bay. I planted a 1999 Polaris I...
