82 Sportfire

Is there a drive direction to clutch belt? Another possibility is that the motor is to far back since I just finished the rebuild. I used the bump stop on the pto side as my reference. It did kinda sound strange under the tunnel I thought it was just the fatty on top.

I have my sled together and am very surprised at how it's running compared to before I re sealed it and put new pistons in. The problem is when I'm cruising it seems to be disengaging at some point in the powertrain. I did notice 1 coil spring towards the front track is snapped don't know what it's ...

Burn Down?

The cheapest set are the Parts Unlimited on Dennis Kirk I had to buy a set for my Sportfire, because I couldn't find NOS rings. They should be about $52 a piece w/rings and wrist pins.

Pull start pawl

Yes that is my recoil and I noticed in the first pic there is a metal hoop on the center that is not on mine. Maybe that's the piece I'm missing, there was a small piece of a shop towel in there maybe that's standard replacement JDM-shoptowel  (mwking since yours is mangled maybe I could get th...

Pull start pawl

This was working before I took it apart, when you leave the spring off the pawl it will fully engage so I think it's right for the motor. It's almost like there's not enough counter weight to make it engage, but that doesn't explain how it used to work.

Pull start pawl

The service manual I looked in doesn't have the same recoil as mine. I have the single pawl and it looked like the coil spring under the pawl went on the outer edge. Is the plastic cover supposed to rotate? This one has a flat spot in the center that only lets it stay in one spot on the center shaft...

Pull start pawl

I replaced rings and pistons and decided to put on a new rope got that in easy but now I can't get the tooth to come out when it spins the little spring is on the outside of the pawl. Any ideas on what I might be missing here? Thanks.

Tore the motor down today and I broke a ring trying to get jug back on. Can you get a replacement for this, on Dennis Kirk it says the rings are for their pistons only. PTO side seal was weathered but everything else looks good except some scoring on the case from the bearings which the manual says ...

I have the same problem with my 74 600. Got it out for the first time today, and pulled my guts out. Finely I sprayed some sniff [starting fluid] in the cylinders and got a couple pops  . Then some in the intake and cylinders and pulled 5 more times and finely it started  . I...

Can you shim out the secondary my setup is rubbing the belt towards the motor? The cross shaft has a wax pen marking that says trailfire, maybe thats part of the problem. Figured out the clutch puller ran my finger in the clutch hole and felt threads(maybe I should use my brain). Another oddity my m...

Whats the deal with the clutch remover looks like a steel rod without the arms to grab the clutch how does that work? I'm trying to get motor out and put seals in it and the bolts are missing from the mounting plate to the case. But the clutch is the road block for now, never tore in to a sled before.

Looks like I should pull and put some work in to it. I imagine since the engine bolts are missing on one side and loose on the other, the previous owner didn't care to much about it.I read something about crank seals do you need to have a machine shop replace these? I shouldn't be frustrated you can'...

The problem with new seals is I have to pull the motor and when you do that it needs to be ported and polished, bored, and high comp. pistons must be added
