I've got OEM style Juice brake line someplace, I just have to look for it. It might be Up north??

Have you driven a sled with a twist grip? IF not you might want to consider a regular thumb type throttle.....

The cable is 38" long, the housing is 35" long.

There are custom cable suppliers out there I believe.

While the plastic brake line is available, I recommend the Stainless braided model usually for sale on Ebay for about $40.00. I have stainless on both of my hydraulic brake sleds.

Tension screw on the underside of the twist grip, I would recommend removal and throw it as far as you can. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have used a twist grip having completed I-500 and I-250 with 340s and if I remember right the other cross country sleds that I had and liked it for cross country but not good for oval. If possible I would like to restore the 340s to the way I raced it.
I got pretty excited when I saw the pictures of the twist grip & cables as I thought at first they were for sale !!

Found my yellow helmet yesterday, that I used in the I-500 and I-250 in 1975 .Any ideas where I can get it refurbished ?

Need tie rods and ball joints for 340s, any ideas where I can get them from?

Glen,

The ball joints are called Heim Joints. I think I bought mine through McMaster-Carr. If you have a local bearing supply house near by they would probably carry them or could get them for you.

Troy and I re-built a pair of 340/S' a few years back, and we documented most all of it here on the list, you just have to find it.

The problem in making them was that we didn't have the ability to cut left hand threads. So, we tapped the aluminum rod right hand on both ends, put a male rod end on the steering shaft end, screwed the adjuster into the outer end, and put a left hand thread female rod end on the end of that.

Then after all that, we looked at the 340/S that Ed Kruel had at the time ( which was a JD team practice sled ) and saw that they had made them up out of steel tube.

Glen,

The N-19v is a surface gap plug. The NGK equivelent is a BUE plug. The problem is the older Prestolite CDI boxes like the one used on the 340/S may not be able to fire the surface gap plugs. I have a Hewtech fireplug CDI ignition on my 340/S and I run NGK BR9ES plugs. The BR9ES has the traditional electrode and makes it much easier to read the electrode when you are trying to dial in carburetor jetting.

Here is a picture I have of Ed Kruels' 340/S ETD practice sled tie rods. They replaced the smaller tie rods with heavier steel tube.

If the surface gaps were the hot setup, we'd all be running them...and we are not.

NGK BR9 or 10. 10 is the coldest.

I remember Grumpy telling us that only the hottest of Prestolite ignitions would consistently fire the surface gaps.

Here is an update on the restoration.
I want to thank Ryan Baird from Ontario for sending me a twist-grip kit so I can get the throttle cables copied.
If that doesn't work, he said I could use them for the time being.
Attaching a couple pictures. The motor is ready to drop in & the running gear is now installed.
