John Deere Spitfire Parts give-away

Ok folks, I bought a junker sled, with hopes of finding some parts I could re-use (man I really need to log it into the entries, of course it will be logged as a parts sled). Anyway it's a 1978 Spitfire. The tunnel is gone - scrap, the track and seat brought good money on Evil-bay. The engine is in ...

Re: The snow is flying!!!!

Why is it you guys to the south get all the snow! 2 maybe 3 inches here in Racine, WI. It has picked up quite a bit in the last 30 minutes though, may be the big pond to the east influencing things a bit...

Re: A different kind of racer out of Horicon

Are you running the Peerless transmission that came standard on those early 80's 100 series tractors, we had a 111 (now own a 180), I can't imagine either of those tractors going 35 mph. But I guess if you change gearing and have no RPM limit...

That is pretty funny. Looks like fun. What are the rules as far as setting up the tractors?

Re: OT: Sleds for gravity challenged folk

I ride an Arctic Cat Crossfire 700 (same platform they are shipping today), I was shocked at how much higher it sat then the old style sleds (ZR/ZRT platforms). It is extremely comfortable and much easier to mount. As you mentioned, it has a 136 track, and is great in the rough stuff. I also know th...

Re: Spitfires, Good, Bad, & Ugly

I am guessing the dropping cylinder is the result of a bad CDI. A pretty easy fix, but costly ($100), considering the overall price of a used spitfire ($300-$700). If you go this route, make sure you get the right CDI, there are less expensive ones out there but you get what you pay for. I spend one...

Mikuni Butterfly Stock Settings 79 Spitfire

The 79 Spitfire is getting used quite a bit. The other night I had it up to 62 MPH, the girls haven't had it out in an open enough area yet to try in high speed passes... Anyway, it is a bit fussy when it comes time for it to idle (for driver changes) and then when it dies, it sometimes is hard to s...
