Re: Noise from drivetrain?
Howie, thanks for the suggestion on the track as when I checked on it this P.M. I didn't see any missing cogs or damage to the track so I tightened the track 5/16' or so then took it out for a run and didn't have a skip or anything. I imagine when I went through the machine 3-4 years ago I didn't ti...

Noise from drivetrain?
I have a 73 JDX 4 that I rebuilt the (secondary) Driven sheave clutch on and as we haven't had a lot of snow the past few years I really haven't had it out to run much. A month ago or so I had it out and sometimes when I would get into deeper snow it would sound like it was slipping a cog or such bu...

Re: 73 JDX 4 295 Kohler fuel issue
Well I put a 12" piece of rubber hose on the check valve and fastened it with wire instead of a clamp and also wired the fuel line, the fuel filter, and both sides of the primer bulb so there was NO air leaking around the fitting and that seemed to solve the problem. I ran it about five miles a...

Re: 73 JDX 4 295 Kohler fuel issue
I'll try the loose cap once, the fuel pump is one I took off another machine but when I put it on the X4 I rebuilt it with a new kit. When you talk about a stiff line into the tank do you mean poly or could it be rubber? Also the vacuum line from the engine block is ok.

73 JDX 4 295 Kohler fuel issue
After we finally got some snow I decided to get my X4 out for a run. At the start it ran with no issues at all but as I put a few miles on it, it would stop like it ran out of fuel, I would prime it up with a primer bulb I had installed a few years back and off we would go. Finally it got to where i...

Re: Raw Fuel Coming From The Exhaust
Well I replaced all the jets , slide, floats & float arm, adjusted the choke, new fuel lines and two filters, and rebuilt the fuel pump. Hit the starter and about 5 sec. it fired off and ran just as smooth as could be. I have to put on the muffler and air shroud, hood and finish up some of the n...

Re: Raw Fuel Coming From The Exhaust
I have all the different jets and needle and seat and also a pair of new floats as the pins on the old ones were about half worn down but I am still looking for a Jet Needle 6F27 as I figured I would replace everything I could in the carb.

Re: Raw Fuel Coming From The Exhaust
"If your fuel pump has a bad diaphragm or check valve it can pump fuel directly into your crankcase. JDT" The sled has been setting for close to three years so it's very possible the diaphragm and other parts could of gotten bad. I had cleaned the gas out of the crankcase before but will d...

Raw Fuel Coming From The Exhaust
As I've working on my 81 sportfire I have been slowly getting the bugs out. The latest problem is after I took the carb. apart and cleaned it and put back together and when started it, it ran for a short time and then seemed to bogg down and die like it was flooded. When I tried to restart it I star...

Re: What am I doing wrong????
Well got the cable hooked up from the engine to the frame and it worked like a charm. I don't know why it worked before without being grounded but it did. Could of been grounded some how and it didn't show up until after the red stator wire broke and I took the motor out to fix it then didn't get a ...

Re: JDX4 loss of power
Yes I did, I set the points on no.2 cyl. first then went and did no. 1. Also the pints on no. 2 were bent so as not to let the arm open all the way. I straightened the arm and that seemed to help get everything back in line. I followed Brian's advise in setting the points and it worked.

What am I doing wrong????
I've been working on my 81 sportfire with which I had had electrical problems with before (brown wire from stator getting hot). I replaced the stator with a new one hooked the wirers up as per wiring diagram, brown wire from stator to black wire to ground. When I got everything together and tried to...
