1981 Liquifire restoration
Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
I got a little more work done on the liquifire today. The crankcase is back together and the new pistons are on.
My sandblasting did not go as planned because our air compressor is to small and couldn’t keep up. I am going to have to go to my grandpas sometime and use his air compressor to sandblast.

The engine is looking like an engine again! I installed the cylinders, heads, water manifold, and oil pump tonight.

Wow....good job. Just a question, I see orange sealant. Back in the late 90s I bought a tube of sealant from my Deere dealer. They followed the trail of substitution and it ended up being some orange stuff made by GE. Would this happen to be what you used?

It is red RTV. My dad is a John Deere salesman and he did some cross checking with the original part number and this is what it cross referenced to.
Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
It seems I am missing some bolts. The other engine is also missing them so I can’t rob them from that engine. Does anybody know what size bolts go here in the bigger holes of the gear case cover and if they need washers and lock nuts? If so please let me know. Thanks
Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
I looked at the parts book and it shows a bolt, lock washer and a flat washer. The book did not give a bolt size. They should be metric. Also make sure you have the spacer washer that goes over the hole in the case at the 2 o'clock position.

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
The four bolts around the crank bearing attach the crank side of the motor to the bulkhead. They are socket held cap screws. I'll have to dig and see if I can find some to measure the lenght. When i seal up the oil pump case i usually install those bolts to hold the cover tight until the sealant cures.

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
Seems like these socket head cap screws are M8x25. The Deere to kawasaki cross reference shows Deere M68115 is Kawasaki 120PO-825.

I am not sure what you are talking about with the spacer. If you could send a picture that would be appreciated. Thanks!snowmoer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 12:09 pm I looked at the parts book and it shows a bolt, lock washer and a flat washer. The book did not give a bolt size. They should be metric. Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
Thanks for the help on the bolts everyone. I believe I have them in the bin of bolts I received when I got the mostly disassembled sled. I was not sure which ones exactly they were however. I had kind of forgotten about the parts breakdown manual. My dad had pulled up some diagrams for me online before but I hadn’t thought to do that again. I might just end up printing the whole thing for future use.
Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration
I don't have a picture of it. It is a spacer/washer that the gear for the oil pump rides on with the dowl pin. Download the parts fiche in the link I posted and you will see what I am talking about. Part #15. There is one on both sides of the gear.JDcarlor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 7:55 amI am not sure what you are talking about with the spacer. Progress has been slow as I have been busy with school lately. Hopefully it will pick up again but we will see.
