Re: Question for the Mikuni gods
I ran into the same thing a few years back. The guy I bought my '84 Sportfire from had complained that it wasn't very fast. Among other things I found that the slide was not going to wide open throttle. I replaced the cable with the correct one and that problem was solved. Who knows what the cable o...

Re: 1980 Trailfire engine problem I can't pin down
I was getting frustrated not being able to find any fuel issues that's why I swapped the coil. Make sense to try the CDI next.
Thanks, I have a little more hope now.

Re: 1980 Trailfire engine problem I can't pin down
Thanks for the replies. I did rebuild the fuel pump and it has never kicked back on me. About the sealing between the cylinders, I had never thought of that as being a possible source of the problem. How would that cause it? Lloyd, I have been away for a while. I actually finished the rebuild on thi...

1980 Trailfire engine problem I can't pin down
I'm having a problem with my 1980 340 Trailfire that I can't seem to nail down. The sled is very low mileage and I had the opportunity to buy it from the original owner. It's is in very good but not perfect condition. It is a great survivor so I decided to go through it completely but not restore it...

Re: Camoplast track on a JD Trailfire?
I talked to another JD sled guy at the Toronto snowmobile show a few years back and he mentioned that you could use a Camoplast track. I still have the catalog I picked up. I forgot to mark the track he pointed out, but I think it must have been a 9796T Durasport 725. The track is 15"x116"...

Re: Carburetor issue, I think, what am I missing?
I was suspicious of the choke plunger too. I had adjusted the cable so I tried loosening it up. The plunger is new but I'm sure I can see a bit of a dent in the rubber where it is seating. I swapped another choke cable on to it, but it was so flooded by that point I'm going to have to wait and try i...

Carburetor issue, I think, what am I missing?
I was working on the 340 Trailfire this afternoon. I have gone through the sled completely and replaced all the bearings, sliders etc. The engine has new gaskets, seals fan belt etc. I put a rebuild kit in the fuel pump, replaced the fuel lines and filters and gave the carbuetor a good cleaning. Whe...

Re: High Idle
A really quick check to make sure the cables aren't too tight and the slides are bottoming out is just to give the throttle a quick flip when the engine isn't running. When the slides hit the idle adjustment screw there is a real metalic click you won't hear if the cables are bottoming out first.

Re: 84 EBAY LIQ
Randy ... by any chance do either of them have this guard under the chain case? My 84 did ... just curious Detail 23 I was wondering what that thing was for. I have a disassembled 1980 Liquifire and one of those guards. It must have came off of it. I went out to the garage and checked the '84, no g...

Re: Fuel tank grommet installation
I always put the grommet in the hole in the tank first and then push the metal fitting through the centre. If you put the fitting in the grommet first it seems a lot harder.

There is something very satisfying about going into a JD dealer and picking up parts for a sled.

Re: 80 trailfire 440 piston circlips wanted
$26.00 shipping min. plus fees :( This seems to happen a lot. They could put a couple of circlips in an envelope and mail it for the cost of a letter, but they put them in a small flat rate box that is still 99.99% empty. Some companies are better at recognizing how silly this is. I wonder if you c...

Re: Stator and HSR Question
You can use the HSR ignition box with an early stator and vice versa to my understanding as well. Just remember that the early and HSR engines used a different flywheel housing. The HSR ingition box won't fit on an early flywheel housing were the coil was. I have run into this on my '84 Liquifire. I...

Re: Engine Timing
"The timing mark on the stator should align exactly with the flat on the extended portion of the bottom crankcase half" according to the tech manual. Check out the tech manuals on Vintagesnow.com to see the pictures. You just have to align the mark on the stator with the flat on the case a...
